Language learning at Trio World School begins early and develops gradually as students move through the school.
English is central to academic learning, while Kannada and Hindi give students opportunities to communicate in additional languages and understand the cultural and linguistic diversity around them.
The focus is on developing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in an age-appropriate way, with increasing attention to vocabulary, grammar, comprehension and literature as students progress.
Young children are introduced to Kannada and Hindi through age-appropriate activities such as conversation, stories, songs, rhymes and vocabulary-building exercises.
At this stage, the emphasis is on becoming familiar and comfortable with the sounds and everyday use of the languages rather than formal examination-based learning.
This early exposure helps children build confidence before reading and writing become more structured in the Primary Years.
During the Primary Years, students continue learning both Kannada and Hindi alongside English.
Language learning gradually develops across:
Activities, conversations and written work are used together so that students learn to use the language rather than only memorise rules.
As a school in Karnataka, TRIO follows the state requirements for the teaching of Kannada.
From Class V onwards, Kannada is taught as the mandatory second language at Trio World School. Students continue to build their reading, writing, comprehension, grammar and literary skills as they progress towards the ICSE years.
This also gives students an opportunity to engage more closely with the language and cultural context of the state in which they live and study.
Hindi is introduced from the early years and taught alongside Kannada through Class IV.
From Class V onwards, Hindi is offered as an optional additional language, depending on student interest and the programme offered for the particular grade.
This allows students who wish to continue developing their Hindi language skills to do so alongside Kannada.
In Classes IX and X, language learning follows the requirements of the CISCE curriculum as well as the applicable language requirements in Karnataka.
Students study:
English Language & Literature
Kannada – Second Language
Hindi – Optional
At this stage, students work with more advanced reading, writing, comprehension, grammar and prescribed literature in preparation for the ICSE examination.
Language learning at TRIO develops gradually, recognising that students may begin with different levels of familiarity with Kannada and Hindi.
The approach starts with listening and speaking, followed by reading and writing, and progresses towards more structured language and literature. Stories, poetry, conversations, presentations, cultural activities and classroom discussions give students opportunities to use language in different contexts.
Local stories and traditions may also be explored, helping students connect language with the people, literature and culture around them while building confidence and meeting the academic requirements of the curriculum.
