Disha: A Career Guidance Programme

Roy Bennett — “Don’t be pushed around by the fears in your mind. Be led by the dreams in your heart.”

To follow your dreams, a choice of career should be an informed one. The process of choosing the right career starts with self-assessment, followed by research on different career options. To do all this, students need to be aware of the different options that match their interests.

At the high school stage, especially in the ICSE curriculum, which offers a strong academic foundation, students are often at a crucial turning point. The subjects they select and the skills they build during these years directly influence the courses and professional paths available to them after graduation. Without proper guidance, it is easy to feel overwhelmed by the wide range of possibilities and external expectations.

We at TWS meticulously help students identify the different career choices that can be taken up and understand the requirements in terms of educational qualifications, aptitude, skills, and attitude. We strive to create awareness in diverse fields such as engineering, medicine, civil services, commerce, performing arts, journalism, law, and many more.

Why career guidance matters for ICSE school students

Career guidance is more than just a one-time counselling session. It is an essential part of helping our young students make confident, well-informed decisions. For ICSE students, who are exposed to a broad and rigorous curriculum, guidance provides clarity and focus by:

  • Helping students discover their natural talents, passions, and unique learning styles.
  • Connecting academics to careers by understanding how their learning experiences at school can open doors to specific courses, universities, and professions later.
  • Reducing confusion, anxiety and prevention of last-minute decisions with the many new and evolving career fields through early guidance.
  • Showing students that there is a roadmap ahead so that they set realistic goals and stay motivated through their final school years.

Benefits students gain from Disha

Through Disha, our career guidance initiative, students gain valuable real-world insights. By interacting directly with professionals and parents who share their experiences, students gain an authentic understanding of what different careers involve.

From traditional professions like medicine and law to newer domains like data science, or AI, students learn about a variety of opportunities they might not otherwise encounter. Moreover, meeting successful professionals helps students envision what is possible and build valuable networks for the future.

Further, understanding the qualifications and skills required allows students to make smart subject and co-curricular choices early on.

This guidance is generously given by parents of our students who have been enthusiastic participants in our endeavour, making the process both personal and inspiring.

FAQ's

Disha is a dedicated career guidance programme at TRIO World School designed to help students navigate the transition from academic life to the professional world. The name itself signifies "direction," reflecting the programme's core purpose: to transform the challenging process of career selection into an informed, strategic journey.

It acts as a comprehensive support system that encourages self-assessment and research. It is specifically tailored to help students in ICSE & ISC curricula identify their talents and align them with realistic professional goals.

Career guidance is offered to students from Class 9 onwards.

Disha sessions are conducted once a week.

The programme operates through a multi-staged approach that bridges the gap between classroom learning and real-world application:

  • It supports self-assessment & discovery by helping students identify their unique learning styles, passions, and aptitudes to ensure they aren't just following external expectations but are self-driven.
  • It clarifies how specific subjects and co-curricular choices in high school open doors to universities and professional paths.
  • Students gain real-world insights through direct interaction with established professionals. This helps demystify various industries and provides an authentic look at the "day-to-day" of different jobs.
  • By providing early guidance, the programme reduces the anxiety of last-minute decision-making, allowing students to set long-term goals and stay motivated during their final school years.

Disha offers a vast and diverse spectrum of career exposure, ensuring that students are aware of both foundational and emerging industries. These include:

  • Traditional Professions: Engineering, Medicine, Law, Civil Services, and Commerce.
  • Creative & Communication Fields: Performing Arts and Journalism.
  • Modern & Evolving Domains: Data Science, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and other new-age career paths.

By introducing students to this wide range of possibilities, the programme ensures they are not limited by a lack of awareness but are equipped to choose a field that truly resonates with their potential.

A unique and inspiring aspect of the Disha programme is that it is generously conducted by the parents of our students. These parents, who are successful professionals, serve as enthusiastic participants in the initiative. By sharing their personal career journeys, challenges, and successes, they provide an authentic and personal touch to the guidance process. This community-led approach allows students to build valuable networks and see real-world examples of success within their own school ecosystem.
