At Trio World School, student wellbeing is an important part of everyday school life. Children and young people experience different academic, social and emotional challenges as they grow, and having the right support at the right time can make a meaningful difference.
Our counselors work with students, teachers and families to provide age-appropriate emotional, social and learning support in a safe and approachable environment.
The aim is simple: students should know that there are people at school they can speak to, and that asking for help is a normal part of growing up.
TRIO has a dedicated counselling centre supported by trained, full-time school counsellors.
Students can approach the counselors for support with concerns related to emotions, relationships, stress, changes at home or school, grief, confidence and other challenges that may affect their wellbeing or learning.
Counselling sessions are handled sensitively and confidentially, with parents involved when a student's safety or wellbeing requires it.
Support is adapted to the student's age and individual circumstances rather than following a single approach for every child.
An important part of TRIO's wellbeing programme is the Student Wellness Ambassador initiative, with student ambassadors appointed in every class.
These students are guided to be attentive to their peers and help build a classroom culture where students look out for one another.
Wellness Ambassadors are encouraged to notice when someone may be feeling isolated, excluded or distressed, respond with empathy, and guide them towards a counsellor, teacher or trusted adult when further support is needed.
They are not expected to act as counsellors. Their role is to help create awareness, encourage peer support and make it easier for students to seek help when they need it.
Students may sometimes need a quiet and confidential space to speak openly about what they are experiencing.
Individual counselling provides one-to-one support for students dealing with concerns such as stress, emotional changes, relationships, grief, confidence or difficulties adjusting to changes in their lives.
The focus is on helping students understand what they are experiencing, identify practical ways to manage challenges and gradually build confidence and resilience.
Student wellbeing and learning are closely connected.
Where additional academic support is required, TRIO provides personalised learning support that may include remedial sessions, informal and formal assessments, and appropriate classroom accommodations.
The school works with students, teachers and families to understand individual learning needs and identify suitable support within the school environment.
The aim is to help students participate confidently in classroom learning while recognising that children may learn at different rates and in different ways.
The student-led Well-being Club gives students opportunities to contribute to a positive and supportive school culture.
Activities focus on themes such as kindness, empathy, peer support and emotional awareness, allowing wellbeing to become part of regular conversations within the school community rather than something discussed only when a concern arises.
The name TRIO reflects the relationship between School, Family and Society, and this partnership is particularly important when supporting a child's wellbeing.
Students may sometimes experience circumstances outside school that affect how they feel, behave or learn. Open communication between families, counsellors and teachers helps the school understand the wider context and provide more consistent support.
Our counsellors work with parents where appropriate to build understanding around a child's emotional needs, discuss supportive approaches at home and address concerns early.
Supporting students also involves the adults around them.
TRIO conducts workshops and capacity-building sessions for students, teachers and parents on topics related to emotional awareness, wellbeing and student support. External specialists may also be involved where appropriate.
These sessions help teachers and families recognise concerns, communicate more effectively with children and respond with greater understanding.
Wellbeing support works best when students feel comfortable speaking up.
Through counsellors, teachers, Wellness Ambassadors, learning support and close communication with families, TRIO aims to create an environment where students feel listened to and know where to turn when something is troubling them.
Academic progress remains important, but so does helping students develop the confidence, self-awareness and resilience they need as they move through school and beyond.
